Meditation is extremely important to keeping a healthy mind and life. That is why it is encouraged in Sikhi through the process of Path and Naam Japo
Path (pronounced Paat)
PATH (PRONOUNCED PAAT)
Kirtan:
This is religious music and singing usually involving a tabla (drum) and a harmonium. People will sing Shabads (poems) written by the Guru Ji's and devotees. Kirtan is a great way to calm the mind and to also connect with God.
Nitnem:
This is the daily prayer which is read in the morning, afternoon and evening. It consists of several Sikh hymns such as Japji Sahib and Chaupai Sahib. Every Sikh should complete their Nitnem in order to get closer to God and to remember God at all times.
Simran:
This is the repetition of the word 'Waheguru' (God). People will do this in large groups or individually for several hours or minutes. Simran helps to focus your mind on God and to remove all anxieties and stress that you previously had.
